Make Way, America: LKN Orchestra is heading for Washington D.CThe Lake Norman Orchestra will be performing at the Nation's Capitol! On Sunday, May 24, the LKNO will be privileged to be part of the National Memorial Day Concert Series, a Musical Celebration of Peace in Washington D.C.
By: Lake Norman Orchestra Overlooking the National Mall, the group will perform in front of the three stainless steel triangular spires that form the United States Air Force Memorial, a sculpture that reaches upward to 270 feet, representing three core values of the Air Force - integrity first, service before self, and excellence. They also reflect a bomb burst maneuver, and stand for three out of four Air Force airplanes performing a Missing Man flight formation. For this event, Cedeño will conduct the orchestra’s repertoire consisting of a variety of music including a movement of Dvorak’s New World Symphony and Meyer’s An American Rhapsody. While in Washington D.C., members of the orchestra will tour several national memorials and sites, including a visit to the Washington Monument, the Smithsonian and the Arlington National Cemetery. The LKNO will visit the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier during the U.S. Military Wreath Laying Ceremony. Thereafter, the orchestra will attend the National Memorial Day Concert on the West Lawn of the U.S. Capitol featuring a performance by the National Symphony Orchestra which will be televised on PBS live from 8:00 to 9:30 p.m. ET, from the West Lawn Of The United States Capitol Founded in 2002, and conducted by Cedeño since 2008, the Lake Norman Orchestra is comprised of more than 65 local musicians. The LKNO performs six to eight times a year at indoor and outdoor venues in the greater Lake Norman area. ### The Lake Norman Orchestra, a not-for-profit community organization, welcomes all volunteers who desire to improve their musicianship, share their talent with their peers and provide quality entertainment throughout the Piedmont region of North Carolina. The LKNO performs several concerts throughout the year at numerous venues in the Lake Norman area. The LKNO musical repertoire is as diverse as its membership, so you're sure to find something you enjoy. Cedeño has performed as a conductor, soloist and collaborative artist in the United States,Europe, and South America. In 2012, he led members of the Lake Norman Orchestra on a concert tour in Vienna and Salzburg, Austria. As a founding member of the Simon Bolivar Orchestra, Director and Conductor of the Merida Symphony Orchestra and as a Founding Member of the Philharmonic Choral Group of Caracas, Venezuela, he has worked with the founder of El Sistema and the Orquesta Nacional Juvenil de Venezuela. Cedeño has collaborated with numerous performing organizations including the Philharmonic Orchestra of Indianapolis, the Indianapolis Opera, and Charlotte Civic Orchestra; UNCC Opera and Carolina Voices, as well as various orchestras in Caracas, Venezuela. In addition to conducting the Lake Norman Orchestra, Cedeño presently serves as Adjunct Music Faculty at Mitchell Community College in Statesville, Strings Instructor and former Orchestra Director at Gaston School of the Arts in Gastonia, Chorus/Band Director at Community School of Davidson High School in Davidson, NC and Conductor of MusicalMinds Huntersville, an El Sistema inspired after-school youth music program.
