Bloom, who concertizes internationally and is known as a champion of new music, will serve on the faculty of the Snow Pond Composers Workshop, co-directed by Richard Nelson and Ed Jacobs, with guest composer Elliott Schwartz.  The workshop, which runs June 7 to June 13, 2015, in Sidney Maine, will feature intensive coaching sessions, private lessons and interactive workshops on composition.  Peter Bloom, a master classical artist, esteemed jazz musician, and expert improviser, will give premieres of works written for him by student composers, as well as pieces composed for the occasion by distinguished faculty members Elliott Schwartz, Ed Jacobs, and Richard Nelson.  The new works will explore the full range of performance possibilities for flute, alto flute, bass flute and piccolo.

Also in June, Mr. Bloom will give a presentation at the Museum of Fine Arts Boston, for the national meeting of the American Musical Instrument Society (Thursday, June 4 at 2:00 pm, Museum of Fine Arts Remis Auditorium, open to AMIS meeting attendees).  Bloom’s talk will be an illustrated history of the career of famed American flute maker Alfred G. Badger (1815-1892).  On June 5, Bloom will demonstrate flutes by Badger from the collection of the Museum (Musical Instrument Gallery, June 5 at 3 pm), and he will perform earlier that day at a special exhibition, featuring 18th and 19th century flutes from the collection of Marlowe Sigal, one of the finest private collections of musical instruments in the world.  Bloom is a recognized authority on historical flutes, and has given lectures and concerts on historical flutes in Europe, Canada and across the United States.

Peter Bloom’s composition Ablaze She Came in the Dream (for flute, viola and guitar or electric guitar) was recently published by Noteworthy Sheet Music.
