“We are fortunate to have Mayor Henderson as this year’s commencement speaker,” said Hodges University president Dr. David Borofsky. “As a member of our President’s Council, he has been a champion in supporting higher education and prosperous futures for our students. The leadership skills he has shown throughout his career, including his public service as mayor, are exemplary, and as an institution focused on educating the next generation of leaders in our community, he is a perfect choice for commencement speaker.” Mayor Henderson has been a resident of Fort Myers for 36 years. He was born and raised in North Carolina where he graduated from Mars Hill College in 1979 with a Bachelor of Science degree in business administration. His career in Fort Myers began in banking where he worked his way up to vice president. He left banking in 1986 and assumed operating responsibilities as president of Corbin Henderson Company, a real estate firm. He was elected mayor in 2008 and is currently on his second term. Hodges will confer degrees to nearly 500 graduates, bringing the total number of degrees conferred to more than 9,000 since the founding of the school in 1990.
