How about becoming a Luang Prabang Explorer?

HANOI, Viet Nam - June 4, 2015 - PRLog -- First and almost, a Luang Prabang explorer should know some overall information about this land. Luang Prabang used to be the capital of Lao PDR in the years before 1975 but now is a small province located 425 kilometers from the current capital – Vientiane. In 1995, Luang Prabang was recognized as one of the World Cultural Heritage by UNESCO.

There is a legend associated with Luang Prabang. Legend has it that once upon a time, there used to be a God defying people to tell him how many times countenances change in one day. They answered: 3 times: In the morning when washing the face, in the afternoon when wearing hat going out and in the evening when washing the feet before going to bed. The God admitted defeat, cut his head off and gave it to the people. From then on, people have to water the Godhead every year, if not there will be drought throughout the year.

Nowadays, there is a beauty contest held every year before April 15th to pick out seven most beautiful girls to water the Godhead. That legend has made Luang Prabang a sacred place in the heart of every citizen of Laos.

The peaceful land

As a LuangPrabang explorer, it would be such a pity not to discover Kuang Si waterfall. This beautiful waterfall is located 29 kilometers from the central with the turquoise water and pristine beauty. Besides this amazing waterfall, tourists may also choose to bath in those beautiful small lakes formed by the cool and clear flows from the waterfall. The golden Royal Palace and the ancient Wat Xieng Tong temple are sure to make a huge impression on tourists. But Luang Prabang is not just old and pristine, it is also rustic and familiar.

Early in the mornings, hundreds of monks in the orange robes walk through the streets. People here respectfully kneel at the gate of the house with the alms in their hands waiting for the monks. After the monks collected the alms, people still kneel there and hear a chant as the blessings from the monks.

We caught a tuk tuk to get around the streets. We are amazed to find that 10 out of 10 drivers here are good at English. This gave me the sense of safety since the difference in language is no longer an obstacle. Thanks to this, you don’t have to learn Lao language to be a LuangPrabang explorer.

Specialities in Luang Prabang

When it begins to get dark, tourists pour out on the streets for a walk and on the foot of the mountain, lines of red tents have been set up getting ready for the night market. If you are going to be a LuangPrabang explorer, you are advised to explore this interesting night market. Looking down from the mountain, the whole market shimmers with lights and beautiful colors from the tents and souvenirs. The goods which are sold at the market are mostly made from fabric such as handbags, curtains, scarf or blankets.

Unlike China Town in Singapore or Mongkoh in Hong Kong with the same types of souvenirs such as keychain or toys, night market in Luang Prabang only sells the handmade items which can only be found in Laos. You will not be able to take your eyes off those beautiful pillows with sophisticated lines, classic patterns and courteous colors. The price of these amazing pillows is really soft. It will cost you only 60,000 kip for 6 pillowcases.

The amazing fact that you – a LuangPrabang explorer will find out is that Luang Prabang has almost every natural ingredient to form a diverse food culture. You can find numerous goat and chicken restaurants along the streets here. Just a few kilometers from the central and you will see flocks of goats wandering around the streets. Chicken in Luang Prabang are not raised in the industrial farming way so it tastes really good and different.

Those are just the ordinary dishes in Luang Prabang. The most luxury dish here is fish barbecue. Laos is a landlocked country so seafood is rare and expensive in this country. Luang Prabang is lucky to be located beside a river which provides a diverse source of shrimp and fish. That is the reason why people here have fish barbecue – the dish which is considered a signature dish of Luang Prabang.

Prices in Luang Prabang

Prices in Luang Prabang are a bit higher than Vietnam. However, the hotel prices are generally lower than Vietnam and a different point is that hotels here are willing to accept several people hiring one room. This is a note that a Luang Prabang explorer (http://threeland.com/blog/how-about-becoming-a-luang-prab...) should know.
