Hike it Baby Encourages Families to Keep Hiking On

PORTLAND, Ore. - July 29, 2015 - PRLog -- Over 5,000 people, or 1,400 families, all over North America attended a Hike it Baby Hike On event this past weekend. Hikes took place Saturday, July 25, 2015, with each of the the organization’s branches hosting at least one event to get families with children of all ages out on the trails. Participants who attended or hosted an event and registered at www.hikeitbaby.com/hike-on had the opportunity to win prizes from well-known outdoor outfitters, such as Garmin, OnyaBaby, and Superfeet. Hikers were able to participate anywhere in the the world, even if they didn’t live in a Hike it Baby city and still be eligible to win prizes.

“I’m so excited about how the Hike On event turned out,” says 43-year old Hike it Baby Founder, and first time mom, Shanti Hodges. “I never expected we would meet our goal of 1000 families signing up, but to exceed it makes it even more awesome. It’s so rewarding to see families inspired to get out together.” The event marked the two year anniversary of the organization.

Hike it Baby’s next event, the Hike it Baby 30 Challenge, will begin on September 1st and will invite families to hike 30 miles in 30 days. This is the fifth such challenge the group has organized.

Hike it Baby hosts free hikes throughout the US, Canada, Australia, and Italy. Hike it Baby aims to help families minimize the effects of postpartum depression in new mothers (and fathers), create a network of like-minded individuals, encourage families to discover new parts of their cities and county, and teach children an appreciation for nature from the newborn stage on. The organization was founded in Portland Oregon in 2013 by Shanti Hodges and is run entirely by volunteers. Currently, there are 134 branches with over 43,000 members worldwide.
