ASI Group Ltd. celebrates two decades of R&D with Patent award

Aug. 11, 2015 - PRLog -- ST. CATHARINES, August 10, 2015 – ASI Group Ltd. (ASI) announced today that it has been issued U.S. Patent No. 9,003,693 B2 by the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. The patent asserts a method for controlling bivalve growth in a static or semi-static service water system. This method is especially useful for controlling zebra mussel growth in water systems used for fire prevention.

Mussel infestation is particularly a concern for industrial facilities that draw raw water from the Great Lakes. In their maturity, mussels attach themselves to hard surfaces such as pipelines, which can result in a reduction of pipeline bores, enhanced electro-corrosion of pipe materials, and increased maintenance costs associated with the accumulation of shell debris.

In 1989, ASI initiated several R&D programs to develop solutions for the growing problem of zebra mussel infestation at industrial facilities on the Great Lakes.

“R&D, especially commercially-valid R&D, which is an immediate benefit to our clients, has been key to our success here at ASI,” stated Carmen Sferrazza, President and Founder of ASI.

ASI prides itself in pioneering innovative solutions and has a strong focus on R&D initiatives, including investigating the latest technologies for underwater infrastructure inspection, finding the best solutions for decentralized water and wastewater treatment, and biofouling control methodologies.
