Dialogue with Three Chords start season five with “The Major Arcana or The Fool's Journey”

NEW YORK - Aug. 21, 2015 - PRLog -- Greenwich Village mainstay Dialogue with Three Chords (D3C) team with Brooklyn College, the alma-mater of D3C co-founders Stephen Gracia and Michael LoPorto, to kick off their fifth season of independent theatre with a performance of their new work: “The Major Arcana or The Fool’s Journey.” The narrative is presented in a season-spanning, serialized format where characters and themes are connected, but each play also functions as a stand-alone piece. The show starts at 8pm on August 27 downstairs at Mr. Dennehy’s on 63 Carmine Street, New York, NY 10014. Admission is free with a $3 suggested donation.

The season-long work will consist of 23 individual plays that see main character ‘The Fool’ on a journey through each of the Major Arcana Tarot cards. “Along the way, The Fool will meet, among others, a female pope, a renowned surrealist painter, and the Emperor of America,” explained Gracia. This isn’t D3C’s first serialized play. In their third season, they presented “Shipyard Souls & A Compass Rose,” which saw characters and settings repeat in a narrative whose time-frame included Prohibition era Brooklyn and San Francisco in the 1970s.

“As with our previous serialized drama, ‘Shipyard Souls & A Compass Rose’, each night of ‘The Major Arcana’ exists as a complete story that can be enjoyed completely out of context,” said Gracia, “but, as with ‘Shipyard Souls’, if you see it all, you get the full story.” The shorts plays pair Brooklyn College BFA Acting program undergrads with seasoned D3C actors, a partnership that began last year. “I feel lucky to still have such a wonderful group of artists to work with,” said LoPorto, “and to also have the opportunity to work with a younger generation of up and coming actors.”

Speaking to the broader theme of “The Major Arcana” Gracia had this to say: “What begins by stepping blindly off a cliff ends with a deeper understanding of what lies beyond its edge. Not all things are swallowed by a void.”

“The Major Arcana or The Fool’s Journey” features: Larry Greenbush as Norton, John Harlacher as Aaron, Kendra Leigh Landon as Sophia, Mike Nemeth as Thomas, Julie Orkis as Leonora, Cristina Pitter as Pope Joan and Anika Solveig as The Fool.

Dialogue with Three Chords was founded by Stephen Gracia and Michael LoPorto and applies the do-it-yourself philosophy of punk to the stage and features short plays and live music. Their work has also been produced at Sargent Theatre, Makor Theater, DUMBO Theatre Exchange, Levenson Hall at Brooklyn College, and the Theaters at 45 Bleecker.

The Brooklyn College BFA Acting program offers intensive courses in Stanislavsky-based acting, Alexander technique, improvisation, voice production, diction and dialects, solo performance, stage combat, the business of acting, acting with the camera, and theater history.
