Risto Holopainen releases cassette with lino print

Aug. 27, 2015 - PRLog -- Similarly to Holopainen's previous album Garbage Collection (released on MERE Records in 2008), the pieces on SOZIALREALISMUS are collages and juxtapositions of a variety of sourcecs. In this case all pieces are centered around recordings of a eurorack modular, often accompanied by field recordings.

The electronic sounds in some of the pieces have been submitted to acoustic processing, where the sounds are played through loudspeakers placed on the resonating bodies of acoustic instruments and then recorded again. Extensive digital editing and processing has also been applied.

SOZIALREALISMUS offers swift changes of mood and style. Some pieces are hilarious, others slow and meditative, some are fast paced and full of rapid cuts.

The title of course refers to social realism, the art movement that deals with social unjustice and is concerned with the weak members of society. The reason for this title is perhaps best gleaned from the three bonus tracks on the album.

Included with the digital download is a booklet with over hundred ink drawings drawn during the same period as the compositions were made. On the front of the cassette cover is a linoleum print; each copy in this limited edition of 25 is truly unique.
