MTNA partners with iRODS for virtual file repositories and data management solutions

Aug. 31, 2015 - PRLog -- Metadata Data Technology North America Inc. (MTNA - http://www.mtna.us)  is pleased to announce that it has joined the recently established iRODS Technical Partner Program (http://irods.org/partners), designed to connect the iRODS community and potential adopters with organizations that combine IRODS proficiency with domain specific expertise, deployment and integration solutions, development and implementation services, or global support. The program complements the iRODS Consortium existing services.

iRODS is a mature enterprise grade open source platform for file storage virtualization, data discovery, workflow automation, and secure collaboration. It offers a powerful alternative to conventional file systems, whose limited capabilities are often insufficient to, out of the box, meet the complex requirements and needs of large file repositories.

Agencies producing, archiving, publishing, or analyzing statistical or scientific data at the enterprise level commonly hold and manage a very large number of electronic files. The traditional approach is to store such resources on local/shared disk drives and other storage devices, and rely on system administrators and users to self-manage the content. This is often time consuming and costly; and despite best efforts, such repository almost inevitably gradually becomes disorganized. Moreover, the lack of built-in process automation and metadata capture functionality makes integrating file storage with other information system components challenging.

An iRODS based storage solution can help addressing these issues and more, enabling the establishment of well governed and integrated file repositories. MTNA is looking forward to bring iRODS technology to statistical and scientific data managing agencies, as well as provide its domain expertise to the iRODS community.
