Follow on Google News | ![]() Ciklum Biowave Labs’ Team won Gold Medal at the World Congress of Otology in JapanBy: Ciklum The Politzer Society distinguishes every year the most promising researches in the field of otology and neurotology from all over the world. The meeting attracted over 700 participants from 50 countries with their recent findings in otology. The award-winning team from Ukraine united the Ukrainian Institute of Otolaryngology, Research and Manufacturing Private Enterprise WEL and Ciklum Biowave Labs team. Andrii Bobrov from the Institute of Otolaryngology presented the joint award-winning “Implantable Bioelectrical System for Restoration of Blinking” work. This is the implantable system to help patients with one-sided facial nerve paralysis. The system will restore blinking activity in the damaged part of the face where facial nerves are not able to force blinking anymore. It will consist of the implantable device to register the eyelid activity from the healthy eye (electromyograph) The work was done by interdisciplinary team from medicine, academia, and engineering: initial idea, experimental and clinical approbation - Andrii Bobrov, MD, Oleg Borysenko, MD, PhD, Institute of Otolaryngology, Department of ear microsurgery and otoneurosurgery (Kyiv, Ukraine); circuit design, functional prototype development - Research and Manufacturing Private Enterprise WEL (Kyiv, Ukraine), headed by Sergii Shoferistov; algorithms for data preprocessing and analysis, and method for blinking detection, as well as software development - Anton Popov, PhD, Yevgenii Karpliuk, PhD, Oleg Bodilovskyi and Oleg Panichev, the core of Ciklum Biowave Labs team from the National Technical University of Ukraine “Kyiv Polytechnic Institute”, Department of Physical and Biomedical Electronics (Kyiv, Ukraine).
