Wet tantalum capacitors set new benchmark for energy density in rugged applications

Charcroft Electronics Ltd., – a specialist distributor and manufacturer of components for harsh and high-end applications– announces a breakthrough in energy density for wet tantalum capacitors with the WT83 series from Exxelia Tantalum (formerly Firadec).

The WT83 series introduces a significant increase in volume capacitance which will help designers to reduce the size and weight of end-products for the Defence, Space and Aeronautics markets in which overall solution size can be critical.

In comparison with a standard CLR81 (MIL-C-39006/25) wet tantalum capacitor the WT83 series offers an increase of up to x6 in energy density. The WT83 axial capacitors are manufactured in standard case sizes with a diameter of 10.1mm and a maximum length of 26mm for the C case ad 34mm for the D case. The series is designed to provide rugged reliability in harsh environmental conditions with an operating temperature range of -55 to +125 degrees Centigrade and withstanding shock up to 100g, and vibration up to 50g.

Intended for filtering, energy storage and energy conversion applications, the WT83 capacitors are available across a voltage range of 6.3 to 125V, and with capacitance values up to 1000 microFarad at 75V; or 330 microFarad at 125V. In addition to being offered in axial packages, the WT83 series can also be customised with multiple WT83 capacitors mounted into a module.

Charcroft is offering a limited number of samples to OEMs with qualifying applications and production volumes.
