Follow on Google News | St. John’s Episcopal Hospital to go live with ICD-10, effective October 1, 2015, as requiThis change marks a major healthcare industry move from ICD-9, which has been in use since 1979, to ICD-10—from 13,000 diagnoses codes in ICD-9 to 68,000 in ICD-10; and from 3,000 procedures codes in ICD-9 to 87,000 in ICD-10. The revised coding system allows for greater specificity of diagnoses and procedures. All healthcare professionals who submit medical claims to insurance carriers for medical services rendered to the insurance carrier’s members must now comply with the use of ICD-10 to secure appropriate reimbursements for any services rendered on or after October 1, 2015. St. John’s Episcopal Hospital is working with their medical professionals and healthcare partners to ensure a smooth transition, with minimal impact to patient flows and claims submissions. We ask all of our community partners to ensure compliance with this new requirement by providing corresponding ICD-10 diagnoses codes when referring patients to our facility for medical services. Our goal is patient satisfaction.
