History and evolution of Starbucks logo: Starbucks logo is one of the most popular and recognizable logos. The logo was awarded many prestigious design awards. The logo is an inspiration of a Norwegian painting that goes back to the sixteenth century. It represents a mermaid with two tails carved on a wooden piece. Surrounded with a circle, the painting has been adopted to represent Starbucks coffee. The logo has been chosen in 1971 when the company was launched and founders wanted the logo to convey the old relationship between coffee merchants and sailing. The logo also indicated the very high quality of the coffee served in Starbucks. In 1987, Howard Schultz acquired Starbucks company and he worked on simplifying the logo. The mermaid breasts were covered up by its flowing hair and the green color was added. Green implied growth, uniqueness and freshness. In the company's 40th anniversary in 2011, a new version of the Starbucks logo was unveiled. Only few changed were made like enlarging the inner siren of the logo.
