United Way and Hampshire Power Partner to Support Hampshire County

NORTHAMPTON, Mass. - Oct. 8, 2015 - PRLog -- September 30, 2015-Northampton, MA-The United Way of Hampshire County and Hampshire Power, two Northampton-based community organizations, are co-launching a new program that seeks to reward the region for keeping energy dollars local. The United Way’s mission is simple: to advance the common good. Hampshire Power’s mission is to provide more affordable electricity to Massachusetts residents and stem the flow of “energy dollars” from the local economy. Though they take different approaches, both organizations seek to improve quality of life for local residents.

The goal of the new program is to support United Way of Hampshire County and its partner organizations via a rebate for Hampshire Power customers.  With thirty-four funded partners, United Way is touching the lives of individuals in communities throughout Hampshire County through its commitment to promoting health and security, building economic security and creating the best possible future for children and youth.

The United Way of Hampshire County endorses Hampshire Power as a cost-effective supplier of electricity to their business partners in the hope of saving them money and keeping their energy dollars circulating in the local economy. Hampshire Power has approved a rebate program to benefit the United Way of Hampshire County.

When businesses sign up to purchase electricity through Hampshire Power, they earn a rebate that can be issued in the form of a donation in their name to the United Way of Hampshire County. The size of the rebate/donation depends on the scale of the customer’s electricity usage, and will be between $25 and $100 per new account.

In addition to offering rebates for new customers, Hampshire Power is providing a referral fee for existing customers who refer businesses that sign up to purchase electricity. Referral fees can be donated in the name of the business to the United Way of Hampshire County.

Each year, the United Way of Hampshire County and its partners impact the lives of close to 30,000 of our neighbors through programs that foster hope, build opportunity and improve lives.  This represents a direct connection to one in every six county residents.  And when their lives improve, we all benefit. Hampshire Power serves 15 Massachusetts municipalities and has provided an estimate $10.5 million in savings.

The United Way does a great job of providing for the less fortunate of our community.”

“We have high hopes for this partnership” said Jim Ayres, Executive Director of the United Way of Hampshire County. “Partnerships with local non-profits like Hampshire Power are a cornerstone of the United Way’s approach of working together to advance the common good.” Ayres has an extensive background in the non-profit sector. He has worked for regional non-profits since 1993 and is in his fourth year at the United Way of Hampshire County.
