Will Gary’s loyalty to Democrats hurt their chances for change?

GARY, Ind. - Oct. 26, 2015 - PRLog -- Gary, In, October 26, 2015– Sy Smith is a 40 year old Gary resident that served 14 years in the U.S. Navy. As a married father of 4, his academic background is in psychology and business administration. Sy is running for mayor as an independent in a democratic city that hasn’t rebounded since the early 80’s due to violence and crime and lack of leadership.

In August of 2014 there had been 19 murders in Gary. This year, it's already up to 34. City officials said they can't turn around that trend by themselves. Smith founded a 20 year anti-violence effort that spans across the world. This 2002 Thomas Jefferson Award winner began his work in Gary in 2003 when he lived in Glen Park.

This Community/political activist turned candidate for Mayor of Gary spent almost an hour at Chicago FBI headquarters to discuss the root causes of violence and its connection to public corruption on Thursday, August 07, 2014.
This meeting occurred based on a letter sent to FBI Director Mr. Comey in Washington D.C. on his insightful statement of not “arresting our way” to safer communities. Sy also discussed the one party rule (democratic) in Illinois and its expansive corruption both locally and statewide.
The outcome was an expression of countermeasures undertaken by Sy Smith and those who believe in his methods of block by block accountability.

Smith conducts a Safety Patrol from the main bus and train portal at 4^th and Broadway all the way to 26^th and Broadway. The patrol is conducted three to four evenings a week between 7 and 8 pm. “Safety is paramount to our people and since we are short on officers we doing our small part” said Smith.
