After a string of recent LGBT attacks involving dating sites such as the popular app Grindr, femme for femme dating website Pink Lobster Dating have teamed up with photography studio The Fresh Group to offer members a complimentary photoshoot to confirm that members are real and genuine. The latest in a long string of attacks was reported by the Daily Mail on Friday, 23rd October when a gay male was attacked and robbed in his own home in Queensborough Terrace, Bayswater, West London. The victim, who has not been named, did not suffer serious injuries but was “very shaken” by the attack, which happened at around 5pm on September 28. This follows the ongoing saga of Stephen Port of Barking, East London, who is accused of luring four men to his home via Grindr, before drugging and killing them, and disposing of their bodies near his home. In light of the recent activity, Detective Constable April Smart, of Westminster CID, said “I would like to take this opportunity to reassure the LGBT (lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender) 'I would urge everyone who uses the services of online dating apps and sites to take steps to help them to stay safe whilst meeting strangers.” In response to this, Pink Lobster Dating have teamed up with The Fresh Group, the largest photographic company in the UK, with over 100 studios nationwide, to offer the world’s first free dating makeover for all UK members. Juliette Prais, CEO and Founder said “Dating should be a wonderful experience and one of the best times of your life. Sometimes we can get carried away online because it is so exciting and full of hope. At the same time my previous experiences online have shown me that it’s important to follow a few basic checks before you start. This way you can truly enjoy dating without being scared. We at Pink Lobster Dating also wanted to make staying safe online fun, which is one of the main reasons for our partnership with the Fresh Group. With this exciting venture all monthly members can get a makeover and photoshoot – you can always bring a friend along too! This way you have a fabulous day out and an added security measure by being verified as being a real woman.” Tips from Juliette to stay safe online: Online: 1. If the members only have 1 image be careful, they should have more than one as it is more likely they are real. It also helps if the images need to be verified before they are allowed to be published. 2. If you can sign up to a site and instantly see all the members and their details, remember that it will be same the other way around. If you don’t mind everyone seeing everything about you that’s fine, otherwise leave the site and go elsewhere. 3. Be careful what you include in your profile – i.e. don’t make it too personal because you don’t know who is seeing it and your details could be used for other purposes. Meeting up: So you’ve been chatting for a few days and they could be the one! Now it’s time to meet up for that first coffee… 1. Swap numbers and have a few phone conversations before meeting up – that will give you a good fee for the person. Often can’t talk or something doesn’t quite feel right? Trust your gut, make your excuses and don’t risk it. 2. Become a social media stalker – most people are on social media now days – do a little research to make sure the person you’re talking to is the deal real. No internet presence? Avoid. 3. Meet in a public place that you know well – during a busy time of day and make sure you’ve planned how to get home. Get a friend to meet you afterwards? 4. Let a friend or family know where you will be and who you will be with. Notes: About Pink Lobster Dating: Pink Lobster Dating is the world’s only exclusive femme dating site for women who like women.
