Many gun owners enjoy their 2nd Amendment rights by getting a concealed carry permit. But, not every firearm enthusiast knows that they can carry their weapons while traveling with the right concealed carry permit. The State of Utah has formal agreements with many states to honor its concealed carry permit. Additionally, you do not have to be a resident of Utah to get a concealed carry permit.

Let’s say that you live in Washington DC and have a concealed carry permit. Unfortunately, DC’s concealed carry permit is not very flexible--it is not honored in most states. In this situation, if you wish to travel, you may be eligible for a Utah permit. Here are the requirements for non-residents:

• Background Check.
• Driver’s License and Photo
• Proof of Non-Resident Permit
• Fingerprint Card
• Weapons Familiarity Certification

To get the Utah permit, you must get a CCW or CFP in your home state and submit a copy of it when applying. The list of states that honor Utah’s permit are highlighted in purple on the map attached to this release.

With Utah’s concealed carry permit, you can travel pretty much wherever you’d like. Just make sure that you are familiar with the gun laws where you travel.
