Viewpoint Laboratories expands product line with new ZIG-gel Classic Gel Documentation System

PUTNAM, Conn. - Nov. 16, 2015 - PRLog -- Viewpoint Laboratories, LLC, launched its newest gel documentation system, the ZIG-gel Classic. Like its cousin, the ZIG-gel Wi-Fi, this new product provides the imaging power of an 18 MP, 10x optical zoom camera. However, whereas the ZIG-gel Wi-Fi is designed to be controlled by the user's smartphone or tablet device, the ZIG-gel Classic uses a conventional point-and-shoot version of the camera with a 2.7" LCD rear screen and all the standard buttons and controls.

"After launching the ZIG-gel Wi-Fi in 2014, we found somewhat of a dichotomy in the market," said a spokesperson for Viewpoint Laboratories. "There were many customers on board with the concept of a premium gel documentation camera controlled by a smart device. At the same time, however, there were also many customers who were looking for the same imaging power in a more conventional form factor. We developed the ZIG-gel Classic to meet this demand."

The ZIG-gel, named after the ziggurat structure to which it bears resemblance,  provides a field of view of 16 cm x 12.5 cm, perfect for mini- and midi-gels. Images are saved in JPEG format.The ZIG-gel is designed for use with a variety of third‐party benchtop transilluminators including UV, white light, and blue LED models. "Our ZIG-gel products pair well with the popular Dark Reader® blue LED transilluminator models, size DR46B and larger, as well as the UV and blue LED transilluminators available from Maestrogen," said the spokesperson.

Viewpoint Laboratories is offering two versions of the ZIG-gel Classic. One model, the ZIGC-F, includes a high-quality amber filter for use with UV and blue LED transilluminators and most dyes such as ethidium bromide, SYBR® Green, GelStar™, GelGreen™, GelRed™, SYPRO® Ruby, Pro-Q® Diamond, Cy3®, rhodamine, fluorescein, and various GFPs. The other model, the ZIGC-NF, has no filter and is meant for use with the amber screen that typically comes with many commercially available blue LED transilluminators.

"We feel this product will be very popular for research labs, as well as for life science educators, their labs, classrooms, and students," said the spokesperson.
