Follow on Google News | A winning weekend for the Mercedes-Benz Club at the Classic Motor ShowThe Mercedes-Benz Club winner of Best Large Club Stand at The Classic Motor Show at the NEC, Birmingham.
The fact it was fully open for everyone to see the iconic cars displayed up close was one of the reasons the judges chose the Mercedes-Benz Club stand for an award. These cars included the breathtaking 300SL Gullwing belonging to Ed Daniels. In this case not only could people see the car – in exchange for a contribution to the Huntington's Disease charity they could sit in it and have their photo taken. This was so popular that the car suffered some damage to its interior trim. But such was the positive atmosphere on the club stand that another exhibitor, leather specialist Jason Payne of the Leather Repair Company of Knaresborough, sprang to Ed's aid and repaired the damage – free of charge. Club members were also amongst the winners. All were welcome to the café area for tea or coffee and biscuits – and a much-appreciated sit down. They were also eligible to win two nights at the elusive Llangoed Hall Hotel and sets of Astucia emergency warning lights worth £25 each. The volunteers who manned the stand all weekend were entered in a prize draw for a Pakatak Vicovation Marcus 5 Dual in-car camera worth £250. New members weren't left out either – any joining at the show had the normal £5 joining fee waived and received a Meguiar’s Wash & Wax car care kit, worth £25. During the course of the weekend 199 new members joined the club and 55 took the opportunity of renewing their membership. Ed Daniels raised £460 for his charity.
