By: Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc ‘Getting to Zero’ Heroes BOSTON, November 20, 2015 - As many prepare for the 2015 holiday season, Tripp Consulting and the Gilbert Albert Community Center, Inc. prepare to observe World AIDS Day 2015 under the theme “Getting to Zero”. On November, 28, 2015, the 3rd Annual World AIDS Day “Getting to Zero Heroes” forum will take place at the Codman Square Library from 11:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. This forum introduces the community to the Heroes behind the local “Getting to Zero” movement. These heroes are the “Stars of the Story”, a panel of people all living with and/or working in the field of HIV/AIDS. They will share their experiences of living with and fighting against HIV, the importance of health awareness, education, testing, prevention and treatment for HIV. These Getting to Zero Heroes are raising awareness to help our community reach Zero new infections, Zero stigma/discrimination, Zero HIV/AIDS related deaths and helping those living with HIV/AIDS live longer, healthier lives. Julia Tripp of Tripp Consulting says, “The goal of Getting to Zero Heroes(c) is to re-frame World AIDS Day as a day of empowerment and day to take control of our community’s health and well-being and to celebrate learning and living, not fear…We need to educate. People don't realize that HIV is about something you don't have, immunity.” Following the panel discussion, Part 2 of last year’s hit original play “You Gave Me What?!”, a romantic comedy will be performed. This event will inform, educate and empower the community at a time when the conversation has lulled. “As an organization committed to service and uplifting our communities, we strive to educate and empower our communities on important issues such as prevention and making informed decisions. Supporting World AIDS Day is an initiative of our sorority at a national level so our chapters are getting involved around the world,” said Monique Carter, President of the Boston Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated, co-sponsor of the event. Founded in 1945, the Boston Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. has continuously served the Greater Boston community with an “Uncompromising Commitment to our communities to lead, serve and empower” through community service, civic engagement, and philanthropy.
