Do GMO bugs spell the end of the world?

Can genetically modified mosquitoes assist or torment humanity?

NEW YORK - Nov. 25, 2015 - PRLog -- In true conspiracy-theory fashion, a broadcaster on video news platform Headliner has speculated that genetically modified malaria-resistant mosquitoes may someday give rise to six-foot bugs that prey on humans.  Alex Heller, a featured broadcaster on the app, gave his hilarious take on this breaking news story by predicting what can only be described as a scene from Starship Troopers.

Heller has a point. Apparently, scientists feel they can improve on nature. But did they fall asleep through all five Jurassic Park movies? Did they miss the memo that you DO NOT tamper with nature?

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention estimates that 300 to 500 million cases of malaria occur each year. By injecting a particular DNA element into the eggs of Indian Anopheles stephensi mosquitoes, they expect to encourage antibodies to attack the malaria parasite. These findings were published by a group of scientists in Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences. "This opens up the real promise that this technique can be adapted for eliminating malaria," said Anthony James, professor of molecular biology, biochemistry, microbiology and molecular genetics at the University of California in Irvine.

But does this gene editing process have mutating implications? We’re thinking Teenage Mutant Ninja Mosquitoes tormenting the City of New York. Do you trust GMO bugs? Are you getting eerie Spiderman vibes?
