By: UES Inc. Coatings made of multiple materials are used in routine maintenance and repair of aerospace parts. Automated metallography, the technology at the heart of UES’ Robo-Met platform, can speed up the evaluation of the coating, and make it more consistent and repeatable. This leads to better quality control and quality assurance of the coatings processes. UES began developing coatings analysis technologies through a Rapid Innovation Fund (RIF) award for Automated Industrial Metallography from USAF in late 2012. The Robo-Met technology was developed at the AFRL at Wright Patterson Air Force base. UES licensed the technology from AFRL, and has successfully commercialized it into the US and global markets. Robo-Met.QC is one of several promising spinoffs for the Robo-Met platform, according to Tom Kielbaso, Technical Sales Engineer at UES. Earlier this year, UES hosted several experts from academic institutions, national laboratories (including AFRL), and industries from around the US, in its Inaugural User Forum for Robo-Met. “The company is working on product enhancements and new applications for the platform technologies based on ideas generated at that meeting”, he adds. UES is also exploring new markets and applications for Robo-Met.3D® About UES Inc: Founded in 1973, UES, Inc. is an innovative science and technology company that provides its government and industry customers with superior research and development expertise and world-class support.
