By: Museum of Design Atlanta Announced last Thursday, MODA has been awarded $150,000 over two years from the Metro Atlanta Arts Fund to be used toward general operating expenses. Receiving an award of this magnitude from an important Atlanta arts organization shows the confidence that MODA is currently able to inspire. "MODA's board and staff have worked tirelessly for the past years to give shape to a thriving, relevant organization with exhibitions and programs that involve members and visitors in design as a powerful tool to solve problems and make the world a better place,” said MODA Executive Director Dr. Laura Flusche. “We are thrilled to have the support of some of the city's most innovative and committed grant-making organizations as we pursue our mission." In addition to the MAAC award, MODA has also been awarded a $90,000 grant from the Lettie Pate Evans Foundation for capital and technological upgrades that will enhance exhibitions and programs and will make the museum’s elegant, contemporary galleries even more visitor- and exhibition-friendly. Lettie Pate Evans Foundation – an independent private foundation that invests primarily in education, arts, and culture – is part of the family of foundations that also includes the Robert W. Woodruff Foundation. And, for the second year in a row, the Zeist Foundation has granted MODA $25,000 to help bring its well-known STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art/design, and math) and Design Thinking programming to underserved youth, as well as $10,000 to help retire old debt, which will further strengthen the museum’s financial footing. This all comes on the heels of MODA’s participation as a beneficiary to the Jamestown Charitable Foundation’s Party on Ponce in October. All of the funds raised from that sell-out event will be shared among four primary Atlanta non-profit organizations working to make a difference within City of Atlanta. “Utilizing the same process we celebrate at MODA, Laura and our staff have demonstrated the transformative power of design,” said MODA Board Chair Bruce McEvoy, LEED AP BD+C. “Laura’s leadership, our incredibly dedicated staff, supportive board and community of supporters are transforming the design conversation in Atlanta. It is a very exciting time for the future of Atlanta and MODA.” With the recent surge in support, MODA looks to bring even more inspiring and educational exhibitions and programs to Atlanta.
