2016 Chevrolet Colorado Diesel and Camaro Win Motor Trend AwardsThe Colorado beat out the GMC Canyon, GMC Sierra 1500, Toyota Tacoma, Nissan Titan XD, and Chevrolet Silverado 1500.
The 2016 Chevrolet Colorado Diesel earned the same respectful award last year. What stood out most for the vehicle this year had to do with its new features and designs. The mid-size truck now offers an available 2.8L Duramax® Turbo Diesel engine that offers extremely impressive fuel efficiency. This vehicle has an EPA-estimated 31 highway MPG, which is much higher than other mid-size trucks in its category. This newer model can also tow up to 7,700 pounds. The sixth-generation 2016 Chevrolet Camaro was new to the Motor Trend Award scene, beating out the Mazda MX-5, Honda Civic, Toyota Mirai, Mercedes AMG GT S, Audi TT, and BMW 7 Series. This vehicle has not earned a Motor Trend Award since 1982, but this new model certainly impressed judges this year thanks to its power and innovation. This model is 390 pounds lighter than recent models. It also offers six new powertrain options, which give drivers the ability to choose the type of power they want to receive. Some of the powertrain options include the standard 2.0L turbo as well as the extremely powerful LT1 V8 engine, which delivers 455 hp and 455 lb-ft of torque. Even the 3.6L V6 engine with eight-speed automatic transmission delivers 335 hp and 284 lb-ft of torque for an impressive and powerful riding experience. All nine judges found that the 2016 Chevrolet Camaro was the most deserving vehicle in the following criteria categories: efficiency, advancement in design, safety, value, performance of intended function, and engineering excellence. Both the RS and SS versions were tested for the awards. Both vehicles also earned some recognition for their technology. Each one is packed with innovative Chevrolet technology features, including Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and built-in OnStar 4G LTE Wi-Fi. About Motor Trend Motor Trend Awards made its debut in 1949 and is now considered one of the highest honors in the auto industry. Vehicles are weighed against specific criteria set by Motor Trend instead of compared to one another. Eligible vehicles must also be brand new, or they must have received a significant upgrade from the previous model. They must also have an MSRP of under $100,000. Vehicles that win receive a trophy, and many winners have reported a spike in sales.
