PRLog -- If you were raised in the 70’s, 80’s or 90’s . . . you probably witnessed the widespread effects of drugs on a family. Sad to say, but many times the voices of those affected the most (children, wives, girlfriends, etc.) go unheard. Detroit native Roscoe Copeland’s electrifying account is not only an explicit glance at the pressures, conditions and surroundings of growing up in an urban area of Michigan, but an inside look at the consequences thereof. The book Cocaine Shadows boldly displays Copeland’s sheer determination to reach the designated place where his hopes, dreams and goals were inevitable. This journey helped mold him into a man and assisted in saving his life. Copeland's intriguing narrative exposes corridors of countless men in America. The expeditions of these survivors may seem like fairy-tales, however, as Copeland will reveal . . . they are in fact reality. Some people may start out viewing Copeland as just another Book Author, Hip Hop Artist, Real Estate Agent, or Urban Neighborhood resident. Others may possibly see him as a poet or street biographer. The fact of the matter is, whatever you think Copeland is, first and foremost he is a survivor. Why a book? Copeland started a path of a legitimate business man. Faced with responsibilities (most not his own), he opted to dabble in illegal activities. Looking at a lengthy jail sentence (a 7 count indictment) the federal judge ordered him to undergo a psychological evaluation in the presence of his attorney and a psychiatrist. Unknowingly to Copeland, this was the beginning of a life shift. Sitting before the psychiatrist and the attorney answering all questions about his: up-bringing, childhood, life and the like, Copeland looked over at his psychiatrist and his attorney and noticed them in full-blown tears. They both asked, how can a person who has come from such an impoverished situation, achieve such a major level of success (disregarding the current legal situation he was in)? Immediately it hit Copeland like an epiphany… put it in a book. He says, “If my story can have an effect on these powerful non-urban individuals, imagine how many people I can help who are (or were in) my situation.” As it turns out Roscoe did not do a day in jail. Fortunately he was given home confinement (“House Arrest” with a tether) for 6 months, with 2 years’ probation. Wasting no time Copeland used this opportunity to: rebuild, regroup and operate genuine businesses. This also gave him the time to write the book “Cocaine Shadows.” Knowing that it could not have been nothing but the grace of God that kept him out of prison, Copeland also used this chance to established (and strengthened)
his spirituality. This gave birth to the CD also entitled “Cocaine Shadows.” What’s next for Copeland? He concludes, “God is good, so the sky is the limit.”
