LOMBARD, Ill. - Jan. 6, 2016 - PRLog -- The Forest Preserve District of DuPage County will use proceeds from the sale of golf tee signs to fund some priority projects in the District, with help from GovDeals.com and the Friends of the Forest Preserve District of DuPage County.

The Forest Preserve District of DuPage County recently sold 22 golf tee signs through two charity auctions on the online government surplus auction site GovDeals.com, bringing in more than $3,000.

Ed Stevenson, Director of Golf Operations for the Forest Preserve District, says that “using GovDeals.com to sell these signs helped grow our audience and bring people outside of Illinois into the bidding process.”

The signs were removed from various holes at the historic Oak Meadows golf course in Addison, and the Maple Meadows East-9 golf course in Wood Dale to make way for a $17 million renovation of Oak Meadows Golf Preserve. The renovation is to restore its natural habitat and improve flood control along Salt Creek while creating flood-resistant golf operations.

One hundred percent of the auction proceeds are being gifted to the Friends of the Forest Preserve District of DuPage County. Proceeds from the auctions will help pay for three priority projects in need of funding.

One project is the restoration of Mayslake Peabody Estate in Oak Brook to help correct years of extensive deterioration at this popular cultural center. The estate, which is on the National Register of Historic Places, offers lectures and tours, concerts, art classes and much more.

The Foundation is also raising money to fund the purchase of a traveling program trailer stocked with recreational equipment and educational tools to provide programs, clinics, workshops and special events at forest preserves throughout DuPage County, as well as the purchase of two ADA-accessible docks.

Katie Michel, Fundraising and Development Coordinator for the District, says, “The purchase of the trailer would allow District staff to travel to schools, scouting groups, libraries, and other preserves to educate children and adults alike on the natural resources that surround us. Our goal is to increase the public’s love and appreciation for the outdoors.” The two ADA-accessible piers, which would include three steps and handlebars, would enable those unable to lower themselves into the water to use the boats and enjoy the water.

The Friends of the Forest Preserve District of DuPage County, formally launched in 2013, oversees the fundraising for the County of DuPage District’s facilities, programs, and events. The Friends’ mission is to advance the vision of the District through philanthropic endeavors. Their goal is to educate the public on the natural resources surrounding them as well as increase their love for the outdoors.
