At the Ballet is the Dallas Asian American Youth Orchestra, a non-profit youth orchestra open to all students in the North Texas area. Together, they will perform works from ballets written by Strauss, Schubert, and Tchaikovsky, to name a few. While DAAYO plays mostly western classical music, they are known for highlighting music of Asian composers. Their organization features four ensembles and a chamber music program. NTSO players lead two DAAYO ensembles: concertmaster, Thomas Keeley, and principal second violinist, Erin M. Fox. The NTSO is excited to have the Young Musicians Orchestra, under the direction of Ms. Fox, playing this concert side-by-side with the players of the NTSO. "At the Ballet" will be the first concert that the New Texas Symphony Orchestra will be conducted by the newly conferred, Dr. Kathryn D. “Cathy” Brown, after she successfully completed her degree of Doctor of Musical Arts in Music Education from Boston University. Brown initiated her coursework in the summer of 2006 and began work on her dissertation in 2010. The work, entitled “Adult Community Orchestras in Texas: Activity and Background Profiles of Participants with a Report of Organizational Standing,” surveyed community orchestras in Texas, looking for patterns that might have influenced these players in deciding to continue making music as adults. As a believer in music making as a lifelong endeavor, Dr. Brown founded the NTSO is 2004 and continues as the organization's artistic director and conductor.
