21ST-CENTURY MEDIEVAL TROUBADOUR FROM LEON, SPAIN TO PARTICIPATE IN THE STATEWIDE El QUIXOTE FESTIVAL.

Crispín D'Olot is an internationally-renowned troubadour from Leon Spain who has recited Medieval Spanish romances and brought that Peninsula’s history and culture to life all over the world.  As part of the El Quixote Festival Crispín will be traveling throughout North Carolina visiting educational institutions with his one man show – "La Razon De La Sin Razon", The Reason For The Unreason – This cultural experience offers stories, relapses, songs and poems, dedicated to the knight of the sorrowful countenance.

Miguel de Cervantes’s celebrated Spanish novel consists of two parts, published in 1605 and 1615, respectively. It was an instant success at the time and made the best-seller’s list in the United States as recently as ten years ago. Over the course of four centuries El Quijote has consistently rated as one of the greatest novels ever written. The dates of El Quixote Festival coincide with the birth (September 29) and death (April 23) of Cervantes (both he and Shakespeare share the same death date: April 23, 1616). In celebration of the 400th anniversary of the novel and its author, the festival has featured art exhibits, literary gatherings, opera, music, dance, theater, cinema, and gastronomy, together with several academic and educational events. The festival will culminate with a marathon reading of Don Quixote hosted by several North Carolina colleges/universities during the week of April 18, with many other events between now and then (events calendar (http://iamquixote.com/el-quixote-festival-events-calendar/)). For festival founder, Rafael A. Osuba, the festival is the realization of a longstanding dream: “This is a very quixotic project.  I have been in conversations with Crispín for several years about his participation in the festival and we are so excited to be able to showcase and introduce this amazing unique talent to North Carolina and United States.”

Crispín D’Olot, an old-fashioned troubadour, started performing in theaters, schools and places of Spain, Europe and Latin America over 18 years ago. This theatrical, poetic and musical adventure was a response which this literary "jongleur" found utilizing classical literature as a tool to reconstruct cultural imaginary essential to a society increasingly marked by violence and the inability to meet on common points of identity and values. Currently Crispín D'Olot is considered a necessary cultural reference; he has been blessed with great successes on television especially prime time where the format has helped him promote his artistic quality. This will be D’Olot’s first time performing in the United States.

These events are made possible by The El Quixote Festival and the following collaborators: Frank Porter Graham Bilingüe Elementary School, The Rojas-Sotelo Family, UNCW Department of World Languages and Cultures, The Town of Cary, Meredith College, The Triangle Philharmonic, Havana Grill of Cary and The Osuba Family.
