Follow on Google News | ![]() New Southern California Summer Camp Opens It's Cabin DoorsStarting February 1st, parents will be able to register their children for any of the upcoming week-long sessions at the overnight camp located just outside of Wrightwood, Ca.
This year Camp E.L.K. will feature 4 sessions from July to August where kids ages 8-14 will get the opportunity to unplug from all of the things that create stress and distraction in their lives. Spending more time outdoors and exploring nature, kids can re-connect with themselves and others. Camp Director, Anne Jeffrey, is excited and ready to share her passion for the camp experience with the hundreds of campers that will make their way to E.L.K. this summer. “Camp E.L.K. offers adventures that help build self-confidence such as hiking, archery and rock climbing, initiatives that foster teamwork and character development using a low ropes course and teambuilding exercises, and activities focusing on nature and the arts with environmental education, art projects and theatre to name just a few.” Summer is the ideal time for kids to get up, get out and explore. But, for some kids summer means no access to recreational and educational activities to help them learn, grow and thrive during out-of-school time. As a result, some kids can experience learning loss and gain weight twice as fast than during the school year. Attending summer camp is a wonderful opportunity for kids to keep their minds and bodies active. A leading nonprofit committed to nurturing the potential of youth, the Y has been a leader in providing summer camp for nearly 130 years. Camp E.L.K. continues to give youth an enriching, safe experience with caring staff who model positive values that help build their kids’ character. Winter camp and family camp sessions will also be available for registration, giving parents more options during periods when kids are out of school and allowing families to bond in the great outdoors.
