Follow on Google News | Local Women’s and Children’s Shelter Receives New VanBy: Darling's Auto Group The Shepherd’s Godparent Home of Maine and Nikki’s Hope, both located in Bangor, received a specially wrapped 2014 Ford E350 from Darling’s Auto Group. The center plans to use the vehicle to help further their mission to help young women and their children create a better future through housing, education, counseling, and medical assistance. “This effort was brought to our attention from one of our employees who is a regular volunteer with the center,” said Lorilei Porter, Event Coordinator at Darling’s. “Our team of employees really pulled together and also helped fill the van with supplies for these women and their children.” The center was founded in 1992, and opened its doors to residents in 2003. Funded entirely through private donations, and using a caring and compassionate approach, the staff at the home help residents foster their own independence, develop critical parenting skills, and help create a stable family environment for themselves and their child. In addition, the center offers personal and career development services and medical care, all intended to ensure residents and their child stay healthy. “We’re proud that all of the babies born to moms in our care have all been born healthy,” said Barbara Ford, Executive Director of The Shepherd’s Godparent Home. “We provide a critical service right in the heart of Bangor.” For more information about The Shepherd’s Godparent Home of Maine and Nikki’s Hope, visit www.godparenthomeme.com.
