WASHINGTON - Feb. 17, 2016 - PRLog -- On Thursday, February  18, 2016, The Thurgood Marshall Center Trust, Inc. (TMCT) presents a Black History Lecture presented by Principal Lecturer  Dr. Benjamin F. Chavis, Jr. President/CEO, NNPA and Special Guest Speaker Joe Paul,  Speaker & Life Coach  and Author of “Your Black Child’s History Did Not Begin at Slavery”

The Thurgood Marshall Social Justice Resource Center Lecture Series is dedicated to presenting scholarly lectures and information on the cutting edge social justice issues of the 21st Century. This Black History lecture allows community members to come to a common understanding of why it’s important to study our history and understand how our contributions to the world before and after enslavement.

“The Importance of Knowing YOUR Black History” lecture will be followed by a panel discussion led by Sam P.K. Collins, Founder and Host, AllEyesOnDC/Editor in Chief, Washington Informer Bridge.  The diverse group of panelist will dig into the much debated topic “Black History Beyond the Text Books” You don’t want to miss this lively discussion.   Ensure you’re in the room to experience this wealth of knowledge being shared by fellow panelist Chuck Hicks (Mr. Black History), Activist & Community Organizer;  Gabriel Acevero, Political Activist, Writer & Social Entrepreneur; Taji Anderson, Black History Advocate and Tyisha Jones, Community Education Organizer & Advocate.

Center President Thomasina Yearwood said she’s excited about the lecture series and it's ability to add to the national conversation of political and social discourse.  Providing a sound board for the voices of people of color which have been often ignored.
