CodeRED Partners With NH Emergency Management to Test NH Alerts Emergency Notification System

ORMOND BEACH, Fla. - Feb. 26, 2016 - PRLog -- The New Hampshire Department of Safety Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Management (HSEM) in conjunction with CodeRED, will conduct a test of both the NH Alerts emergency notification system and the NH Alerts smartphone app the week ofFebruary 29 - March 4, 2016.

The NH Alerts notification system and smartphone app allow state officials to reach residents and visitors with emergency information tailored to the recipient’s location. NH Alerts has been used to notify residents of incidents such as critical highway closures, severe thunderstorms, tornado warnings, and missing persons. The app has the potential to save lives, as the people who use it, are better informed and better prepared to respond to an emergency. Alerts can be received through landlines, cell phones, text messages, emails, and social media alerts

The free NH Alert app notifies users of emergencies occurring within the vicinity of their cellphone’s location. The user can choose to receive a variety of location-specific audible alerts, such as warnings to avoid a particular area during an emergency or weather warnings issued by the National Weather Service. These settings are completely customizable to allow the user to determine the frequency with which warnings are received.

Using both the NH Alerts emergency notification system and the NH Alerts smartphone app greatly increases the chance of receiving a notification when an emergency occurs. The NH Alerts emergency notification system and the smartphone app are free to anyone, including visitors from other states.

Homeland Security and Emergency Management strongly encourages all residents to go to ReadyNH.gov to enroll in the free NH Alerts emergency notification system and to download the free smartphone app prior to the test.
