Starkey Mortgage Visits La Escuelita School during 2016 Production Awards Trip

PLANO, Texas - March 3, 2016 - PRLog -- During the 2016 Production Awards Trip, Starkey Mortgage (WR Starkey Mortgage, LLP NMLSR# 2146) partnered with La Escuelita, a local school in the community of Bonfil, outside of Cancun, Mexico, to deliver 125 backpacks, 5 computers and a check for $42,500 to help build a brand new school. This was the remaining money left over from the $54,000 raised during last year’s Production Trip where employees also built a total of seven bikes for the underprivileged children at the school. Starkey employees were able to visit the school to deliver the backpacks personally to the students and see the location where the new school will be built. They even painted one of the future interior walls as well as bricks that will be used in building the new school.

Owners John Aspinwall and Scott Benson could have never imagined the lasting impact Mrs. Cejas and her students would have on everyone. What was originally only supposed to be a team building exercise and an opportunity to surprise the kids with a few bikes last year turned into something much more. About La Escuelita

Sonia Cejas started the school after seeing that many children in her community had to drop out of school due to the lack of official documents or to very extreme poverty conditions. She took initiative and decided to start giving basic lessons to kids and assistance to parents, in order for them to get the necessary documents that would allow their children to be reincorporated into regular schools. She started in the backyard of her house with 7 kids a few years ago and currently she and her crew support a bit more than 125 kids, from Kindergarten to Junior High every day. They not only give them lessons and guidance to get their documents and school certificates, but they also complement their labor offering them breakfast to ensure they optimize their performance while studying.
