The 1st Annual Sergeant Perry Hewitt Skin Cancer Screening to be held on Friday, March 11, 2016

GREENWOOD, Ind. - March 8, 2016 - PRLog -- The 1st Annual Sergeant Perry Hewitt Skin Cancer Screening is scheduled for Friday, March 11, 2016.  The event is being organized by Dermatology Associates of Indy - GREENWOOD to draw attention to the importance of annual skin cancer screenings and to provide free skin cancer screenings to residents of the greater Greenwood community.  The event is named after Sergeant Perry Hewitt, a melanoma survivor.

"We have an obligation to draw attention to the fastest growing cancer in the United States" said Robert Nevin, "and we are doing it while providing a service to the Greenwood Community."

Skin cancer is on the rise, according to the American Academy of Dermatology, with more cases diagnosed annually than breast, prostate, lung and colon cancer cases combined.  Melanoma, the deadliest form of skin cancer because of how fast it spreads to other parts of the body, accounts for only 2% of skin cancer cases but is responsible for the majority of skin cancer deaths.

“While skin cancer is the most common of all cancers it is also the easiest to cure, if diagnosed and treated early” added Nevin, “but people must take that first step and get the diagnosis from a professional.”
