Follow on Google News | NYSE View from the Floor: What the Latest Oil Rally Means for InvestorsAsset TV's Courtney Woodworth joins Tim Anderson, Managing Director MND Partners - Division of TJM Investments, LLC, on the floor of the NYSE to talk about the implications of the latest oil uptick.
By: Asset TV For many, one of the most attractive components of the oil sector are the dividend payments, which oil majors have traditionally been committed to paying out to their investors. However, even with the latest oil rally, it may not be enough to keep some oil companies from cutting those dividend payments due to months of falling prices. But as Tim Anderson explains, it shouldn't be a cause for worry to investors. "Even if they cut their dividends a little bit, the international majors are definitely part of the oil sector to focus on because if oil does turn back down, and maybe test $30 again, and we trade in that $30-$40 range for the rest of the year, they're going to survive anything." This can be considered good news for patient investors who are willing to ride out the current volatility in the oil sector. However, there are some investors who may still end up losing out. "There are some stocks in the oil sector that might not survive," Tim explains. "A lot of them trade in the single digits that used to trade in the mid-thirties. I think that people should really focus on the big international majors."
