Kazan Federal University Develops New Products to Help Control Quality of Medications

And that's not the only possible use of the research held by Kazan University undergrad Yuliya Leksina.
 
KAZAN, Russian Federation - April 13, 2016 - PRLog -- The researcher recently became one of the winners of the Tatarstan Academy of Sciences scholarship (together with five other talented individuals from KFU).

The fellowship was awarded to Ms. Leksina for her work on express, high-precision and selective methods of voltammetric and amperometric detection of biogenic amines with chemically modified electrodes. Biogenic amines are compounds that are usually formed in live organisms from different amino acids. Such well-known compounds as adrenalin, histamine, serotonin are examples of biogenic amines.

Our interviewee talks about her work, «Many diseases are linked with changing concentrations of biogenic amines, so it's necessary to control their mass content in biological fluids and medications for the purposes of health monitoring. Promising ways to do so are the use of chemically modified electrodes for voltammetric and amperometric detection of organic compounds in flow-injection conditions».

These methods can be used for medication tests, health diagnostics and doping control. They are characterized by high sensitivity, selectiveness and rapid response. Also, as Ms. Leksina explains, the introduction of flow technique helps rationalize the consumption of chemical agents and reduce costs.
