By: Make-A-Wish Hudson Valley Wish Ball-Celebrating 30 Years at 6:00 PM, Friday, May 13. The formal gala will be held at the historic Abigail Kirsch at Tappan Hill Mansion, Tarrytown, New York on the former estate of Mark Twain. The year's single biggest fund raiser for the chapter, the Wish Ball will bring together hundreds of distinguished guests, corporate and community leaders to honor the courage of the more than 2,400 children whose wishes have been granted since the chapter was established in 1986, the joy of their wishes and the many donors and volunteers who have made dreams come true. As in prior Wish Balls, Darlene Rodriguez of NBC's Today in New York and Mike Bennett of WHUD's Mike & Kacey in the Morning, will serve as celebrity co-hosts for the evening's festivities. This year's honoree is Bill Georges of Sleepy Hollow. Bill, Global Chief Operating Officer of Active International, headquartered in Pearl River, will be presented with the prestigious Chris Greicius Award, named for the first child to have been granted a wish by the non-profit organization. Thomas J. Conklin, President and CEO of Make-A-Wish® Hudson Valley, said that the honor recognizes Georges for "having exhibited the passion and dedication to continue Chris' legacy and bring hope, strength and joy to our Wish Kids and their families." Conklin noted that Active International has supported the chapter since 1999, being among the lead corporate sponsors in both internal and external events that have helped make wishes come true for dozens of eligible kids throughout the Hudson Valley. "In addition, Bill and his wife Kristina, have been long-time personal contributors, supporters and ambassadors for our chapter," Conklin added. The Wish Ball will feature live and silent auctions, cocktails and dinner. Guests will have the unique opportunity to adopt a child's wish during the evening's live auction. The Wish Ball is the second of four signature events that Make-A-Wish® Hudson Valley is presenting this year to help enrich the human experience with hope, strength and joy for 150 young lives and their families. The first was the successful Frank & Friends benefit concert of Broadway show music that was staged April 8 at the Tarrytown Music Hall. It was headlined by legendary Broadway composer and songwriter Frank Wildhorn with the participation of Broadway show performers Rob Evan, Jeremy Jordan and Laura Osnes. The third signature event, Tuesday, August 30, will be Golf for Wises, to be held at the historic Sleepy Hollow Country Club's golf course in Scarborough- The final signature event will be the 11th Annual Walk/Run for Wishes on Sunday, October 30, at FDRState Park in Yorktown Heights. Throughout the 30th anniversary year, the chapter is offering a number of opportunities to individuals, companies and organizations to support the events through sponsorships, donations, volunteering and forming teams.
