By: Make A Wish Hudson Valley The life-affirming and inspiring grass roots fundraiser, which will be held rain or shine, starts with registration at 8:30 AM and continues with the Walk and 5K Run at 10 AM. A crowd of participants including wish families, volunteers, companies, donors and friends will walk and run through the 5K course. An awards ceremony recognizing winners in the individual and team categories will be held immediately following the walk. Special guest and Celebrity Event Chairman Mike Bennett of WHUD's Mike and Kacey in the Morning will emcee the day's event. The non-profit chapter's participation in this nation-wide campaign celebrates the more than 300,000 wishes that have already been granted across the country while raising funds for future wishes. "We take great pride that more than 2,700 children in the Hudson Valley region have had their wishes granted since the chapter received its charter in 1986," said Thomas J. Conklin, President and CEO of Make A Wish Hudson Valley. "By participating in our Walk for Wishes, supporters can help bring hope, strength and joy to another 150 children and their families." Conklin noted there is still time to help "meet or surpass our $100,000 goal that will make a difference in the lives of our kids." He explained three ways that this can be accomplished: Register. Sign up today and invite friends, family and colleagues to join your team. Fundraise. Tell people why you are supporting Make-A-Wish and ask for their support. Make it personal to make it powerful. Walk. See the Make-A-Wish mission come to life and celebrate your fundraising success on Walk Day. We seek to bring every eligible child's wish to life because a wish is an integral part of a child's treatment journey. Research shows children who have received a wish are able to build the physical and emotional strength needed to fight critical illnesses. Since it received its charter in 1986, the Hudson Valley Chapter has granted wishes to over 2,700 children in the community it serves. The Chapter's territory spans eight counties of the Hudson Valley, including Delaware, Dutchess, Orange, Putnam, Rockland, Sullivan, Ulster and Westchester. The Chapter is a Better Business Bureau Wise Giving Alliance Accredited Charity, meeting the 20 Standards for Charity Accountability. Additionally, a recent independent audit of the chapter reported that 78% of all funds raised go to program services. rt Wishes® is vital. Every hour of every day, three children are diagnosed with a critical illness. Every one of these kids needs a wish to give them strength and help them heal. When a wish is granted, a child replaces fear with confidence, anxiety with excitement and sadness with optimism. With the help of people like you, Make-A-Wish creates more than 15,000 life-changing wishes nationwide every year – wishes that give children renewed energy and strength, bring families closer together and unite communities. More kids are waiting for their wishes. Your participation and fundraising through ill help. Together, we have the power to transform lives, o End
