Follow on Google News | Zeta Phi Beta, Kappa Iota Zeta Chapter hosts Stork's Nest Grand OpeningBy: Zeta Phi Beta, Kappa Iota Zeta Members of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Community Leaders and Supporters were on hand to tour KIZ Stork's Nest, donate items, and share words of encouragement and excitement. "I am thrilled to see the legacy of the Stork's Nest Program continue in the metro Atlanta area," stated Evelyn Brown in her speech to the assembly. Ms. Brown is a member of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority and the creator of the original Stork's Nest Program back in 1971 in Atlanta, Georgia. Pregnant women join a Stork's Nest program after being referred by a health care provider or a social services program. Women earn points for various healthy pregnancy activities and redeem these points for maternity and baby care items. Shaneesa Ashford, Georgia State Director for Zeta Phi Beta expressed her admiration for Kappa Iota Zeta President Shannon McGuire-Lee and KIZ Stork's Nest Committee Chair Tara Lockett on reaching the Grand Opening milestone. "I am grateful for the work that Kappa Iota Zeta Chapter is doing for the State of Georgia," said Ms. Ashford. "I am a proud State Director". KIZ President Shannon McGuire-Lee added "Our Sorority prides itself on being community conscious and action oriented. We are targeting May 2016 to begin the Stork's Nest classes and we look forward to serving the East Point community."
