By: Michael Henderson Concert Roy Ayers is the number one vibraphone player in the world and one of the most sampled artists in history! Musician Roy Ayers along with his band "Ubiquity" is an international sensation and has been for many years! Roy Edward Ayers, Jr. was born in Los Angeles, California on September 10, 1940. Music has always been in his genes. His mother, Ruby, was a schoolteacher and local piano instructor and his father, Roy Sr., was a sometimes-parking attendant and trombonist. As it often happens in a household filled with love and appreciation for music, Roy began to demonstrate his musical aptitude by the tender age of five. By then he was playing boogie tunes on the piano. He eventually turned his attention to the guitar and other instruments, including the trumpet, and drums before embracing instrument of choice, the vibraphone. Now in his fourth decade in the music business, Ayers, known as "The Godfather of Neo-soul" continues to bridge the gap between generations of music lovers. In the 60's, Roy Ayers was an award-winning jazz vibraphonist, and transformed into a popular R&B band leader in the 70's/80's. Today, the dynamic music man is an iconic figure still in great demand and whose music ininfluenced industry heavyweights, including Mary J. Blige, Erykah Badu, 50 Cent, A Tribe Called Quest, Tupac and Ice Cube! Ayers recently recorded with hip hop artist Talib Kweli (produced by Kanye West) and jazz/R&B singer Wil Downing! Many of Ayers' songs including: "Everybody Loves the Sunshine","Searchin" Michael Henderson started as a child prodigy playing bass guitar for some of the greatest entertainers the world has known! Most notable, The Fantastic Four, Stevie Wonder, Miles Davis, Dr. John, Marvin Gaye, Aretha Franklin and More! As the story goes, Henderson accomplished a great deal, making a name for himself as an "IN-DEMAND" session musician before branching out on his own. After a meeting with protege' and friend legendary drummer, Producer Norman Connors, Michael Henderson wrote, produced, sang and played bass guitar for RIAA GOLD & PLATINUM Certified top ten recordings! Some of the recordings include, the sensual, GRAMMY NOMINATED "You Are My Starship" the incomparable duet "Valentine Love" featuring the amazing vocals of chanteuse Jean Carne and the very funky romantic uptempo ballad titled "We Both Need Each Other" a Henderson penned duet featuring Ms Phyllis Hyman - The first top ten hit single for both artists!! Henderson went on to compose many more top ten hit reordings such as the rythmic duet, "Take Me, I'm Yours" featuring Rena Scott, The very funky bass driven dance hit, "Wide Receiver" smooth titels such as "At The Concert" a duet featuring Roberta Flack "In The Night Time" and so many more! With a career spanning several decades, it comes as no surprise that as in the case of many other great 70's musicians, Henderson's music has been discovered, covered and Sampled by a new generation of artists/musicians!
