OAKTON, Va. - May 4, 2016 - PRLog -- Mosaic Harmony is proud to present "Friends in Harmony: Celebrating Diversity" Concert at 4:00pm, on Sunday June 19, 2016, in the auditorium at James Madison High School in Vienna, Virginia. The concert, which will feature Mosaic Harmony, and three other Northern Virginia community choruses - the Olam Tikvah Chorale, KetzalChorus, and the Sakura Choir. David K. North, Director of Mosaic Harmony, noted "originally the concert was scheduled to take place on June 12 at Falls Church High School, however, we were made aware of a Jewish holiday that falls on June 12 and, in the spirit of the project and to respect our friends from Olam Tikvah's observance of it, we agreed to move the date and find a new location. We are grateful James Madison High School could accommodate us."

The concert and accompanying CD are the result of a generous 2015 Project Grant to Mosaic Harmony from the Arts Council of Fairfax County intended to illustrate the broad diversity of Fairfax County's population.

This grant funding has enabled Mosaic Harmony to collaborate with three Northern Virginia based diverse choirs, singing together in four different languages.  Along with Mosaic Harmony's spiritual songs in the gospel tradition, the partner choirs will sing in Hebrew, Spanish, and Japanese. The diversity project includes not only the June 19 concert but also the production of a one-of-a-kind CD that will be given to concert patrons as a thank you for attending the event.  The CD will feature two songs performed by each choir and two songs that the four groups will sing together.  Tickets for the concert are currently available on the Mosaic Harmony website as well as from each of the performing choirs and are $10 per person.

The creation of the very diverse choir program was begun in late in 2014 by Mosaic Harmony "Our search to find three diverse choirs to sing with us was a daunting task," noted Mary Lou McCarthy, current Mosaic Harmony Board President.  However, we were delighted in finding three such wonderful choirs who all agreed to collaborate with us."  Olam Tikvah Chorale and Sakura Choir are both located in Fairfax County; and KetzalChorus is based in Arlington County as part of the Los Quetzales Mexican Dance Ensemble.

Each choir recorded their parts at the House of Jam recording studios in Beltsville, Maryland this past January and February, and, each learned a new song "My Prayer," penned by North, who is also serving as the executive producer for the CD and the live concert in June.

McCarthy went on to note, "now that we have actually gone into the studio to record our segment of the CD, it's become more of a reality and we couldn't be more pleased about the diversity project coming together so smoothly. After hosting our first World Interfaith Harmony Week concert on February 1, it really took the excitement of the diversity project and concert to a new level.  We are so appreciative of the wonderful opportunity provided by the Arts Council of Fairfax County to assist us in furthering our mission to unify the world one song at a time."  The choir recently celebrated their 22nd anniversary spring concert and fundraiser on April 24 held at UUCF in Oakton.  For more information, and to get tickets visit www.mosaicharmony.org.
