GovComm ITS Cameras Resolve Dense Fog!

MIAMI - May 10, 2016 - PRLog -- ITS cameras are exposed to environmental conditions such as varying light, heavy rain and dense fog. The aerosol particle containing moisture and the fume in dense fog is the most crippling cause of decaying image quality.  To better serve our transportation customer base, GovComm developed a defog solution that we incorporate as a standard feature in all of our ITS cameras.

Extensive analysis and research on the strengths and weaknesses of defog theories and algorithms led us to develop a video defog solution for live streaming video. The technology is based on the Atmospheric Optics Theory. When defogging, it distinguishes the depth of field and fog density then uses a filter process to obtain a correct and natural defog image.

Atmospheric imaging analyzes and estimates the atmosphere's light value and transmittance.  Based on computer vision and image processing, this method uses the histogram statistic, contrast ratio enhancement and filtering to realize real-time defogging.

Due to the integration of the global and partial fog density estimation, the real-time video defog technology automatically adjusts to be adaptive to a variety of changing scenes and partial areas inside scenes thereby avoiding blurring and darkness caused by the defogging process.  Balance of the efficiency and complexity of the defog process is also taken into account.

Users can enable and set the defog level by visiting the image section of the camera's web interface.
