Speaker Rendon lends his Support for Christy Smith for the 38th Assembly District

SANTA CLARITA, Calif. - May 10, 2016 - PRLog -- Today Christy Smith, Democratic candidate for the California's 38th Assembly District, proudly announced that she has received the endorsement of California's Assembly Speaker, Anthony Rendon (D-CA 63rd).  A well-respected leader and Assemblymember, Rendon is known for his commitment to clean, transparent and open government.  Smith, a two-term Newhall School Board Member is running on a similar platform.

"To have received an endorsement from Speaker Rendon is a great honor," said Smith.  "He knows what it takes to be an effective representative in the Assembly.  I am extremely proud to have his support."

Speaker Anthony Rendon represents California's 63rd Assembly District and was sworn in as the 70th Speaker of the Assembly in March of 2016.  Rendon has passed bills on topics ranging from early childhood education to the environment.  He also successfully chaired the Parks and Wildlife Committee and authoring Proposition 1, the 7.5 billion dollar state water bond.

Upon announcing his endorsement for Smith, Speaker Rendon emphasized Smith's ability to work with both parties.  He stated, "It is very important in districts that are trending red to blue that we get behind the candidate with a proven track record of bi-partisan leadership.  Christy Smith's work on the Newhall Board, SCV Trustees Association and the California School Board Association, proves she works across the aisle to get things done."

The prestigious endorsement from Speaker Rendon adds to an already impressive list of support that Smith has received for her campaign which includes former California State Superintendent Jack O'Connell, former Superintendent for the Newhall School District Marc Winger, Congressman Ted Lieu and Congressman Brad Sherman, and State Controller Betty Yee.

In addition, her campaign has received endorsements from the Sierra Club, and Democratic organizations such as the California Democratic Party, Santa Clarita's Democratic Alliance for Action, the Santa Clarita Valley Young Democrats, the Democratic Club of Ventura County, and the Democratic Club for the San Fernando Valley.

"I am extremely flattered and humbled by the amount of support I have received for this campaign," said Smith. "We continue to gain momentum and I am confident that we will take it all the way to Sacramento."
