Congressman Brad Sherman Endorses Christy Smith For State Assembly

SANTA CLARITA, Calif. - April 5, 2016 - PRLog -- Today Christy Smith, Democratic candidate for the California's 38^th Assembly District, proudly announced that she has received the endorsement of Congressman Brad Sherman (D-CA 30th).  A respected representative serving his tenth term in Congress, Sherman is known for being an advocate for fiscal responsibility, education, and the interests of working families.  Ideals which Smith shares.  Sherman praised Smith's ability to stand up to special interests and to represent all of the diverse communities in the district.

"I'm extremely honored to have received Brad's endorsement," said Smith.   "I have a great deal of respect for him and his commitment to his district. I am proud to have his support."

Congressman Brad Sherman represents California's San Fernando Valley and has been in the U.S. House of Representatives since 1997.  He is a senior member of the House Foreign Affairs Committee. He serves as the ranking Democrat on the Subcommittee on Asia, and serves as the Chairman Emeritus on the Subcommittee on Terrorism, Nonproliferation and Trade.  He is also a senior member of the Financial Services Committee.

Sherman stated, "Christy Smith is the only candidate running with an extensive record of achievement as an elected official.  Her time on the Newhall School board shows that she has the leadership and problem solving ability that we so desperately need in Sacramento.  That's why I'm glad to endorse her for the 38^th District."

Sherman's support is part of a growing list of endorsements for Smith's campaign.  She has already received endorsements from former California State Superintendent Jack O'Connell and former Superintendent for the Newhall School District Marc Winger.

"It's very humbling to be receiving the amount of support I have so early in our campaign," said Smith. "But it's also exciting because so many people believe in what this campaign is about and what we want to accomplish in Sacramento."

About California's 38^th Assembly District

The 38^th State Assembly District is one of 80 districts.  It encompasses the mountainous inner northern suburbs of Los Angeles.  It consists of the Santa Clarita Valley and Simi Valley, along with parts of Soledad Canyon and the San Fernando Valley.

About Christy Smith

Christy Smith is a two-term Governing Board Member of the highly successful Newhall School District.  She is a 34-year resident of Santa Clarita.  A graduate of Hart High School, Christy attended College of the Canyons and graduated with honors from UCLA with a B.A. in Political Science in 1993. In her early career Christy worked as an analyst at the U.S. Department of Education. Christy was elected to the Newhall School Board in 2009.  She is active in education advocacy locally and state-wide, serving as the Legislative Vice President of the Santa Clarita Valley Trustees Association and as a delegate to the California School Board Association.
