NEW YORK - May 20, 2016 - PRLog -- Project Brownstone, which was founded in 2013 based in part on a 2005 legislation that resulted in the formation of the Amistad Commission, has an annual award to recognize members of the community as part of its larger mission to educate young Americans about their history.

This year the organization will hand out three awards and the recipients include Alicia Barksdale, West Harlem District Leader, and Michael McElroy, Grammy, TONY and two-time Drama Desk nominated Artist.

"The Annual 'Making A Difference' Award Benefit is our way to give back and acknowledge the great contributions made to the important work we do to empower and develop underserved youths," said Earl Davis, the Executive Director. "Every student that thrives as a result of the every day miracles that help us keep our doors open to underserved college students leaves us even more of a reason to keep reaching for greatness."

The 3rd Annual "Making a Difference" Award is sponsored and planned by MWD Lifestyles, a Harlem based events design firm that pledged yearlong efforts to raise funds. The awards will be given during a 4-hour event at Punto Space in Midtown, and the food will be provided by celebrity Chef Eddie G of the Food Network's Coast 2 Coast.

"We are honored to have members in our community who appreciate the work that we do," said Davis, adding, "MWD Lifestyles, Chef Eddige G, and Punto Space all remind us we need each other to make things happen. That is really what our 'Making A Difference' Award is all about."

As with previous years the organization is focusing on its Textbook Stipend Project, which aims to make the gap from high school to college process easier for students who will receive a stipend for textbooks and supplies. Based on the student's performance they will be awarded an ongoing support throughout their college experience. The program sent its first awardees to college in 2014, and has since doubled its students.

The 3rd Annual "Making a Difference" Award will be presented on June 14, 2016 at Punto Space (325 W 38th St). 6pm to 10pm. Tickets to the event are $150. The event will include a cocktail reception, performance, and presentation of the award. To make a reservation visit the event's official Splash page at MakingADifference.SplashThat.com
