CHELMSFORD, U.K. - June 8, 2016 - PRLog -- The very idea of writing any test can give most of us the jitters. Who likes to prepare for a test and sit down to take the test? However, if you are planning to apply for UK citizenship it is mandatory for you to take the UK citizenship test as there is no way around this. Hence, you might as well get to know the best way to go about writing the test and coming out with flying colours. With the pass score being 75%, one needs to prepare hard for the test, which includes multiple choice questions on UK culture, life and culture. The good news is you can take the test any number of times, though you need to pay for each attempt.

How does one prepare for the Life in the UK Citizenship Test?

The UK citizenship test, otherwise known as life in the UK citizenship test was introduced on November 1st, 2005 for naturalisation, and on 2nd April, 2007 for settlement. You need to attain good proficiency in English (level B1 BEFR certified/ESOL 3 or above) before you can think of taking the test. If you aspire to become a British citizen and settle down in the UK (Indefinite Leave to Remain) you will need to establish the fact that you have sufficient knowledge about life in the UK, with good proficiency in the English language.

Some settlement applicants may be exempted from taking the Knowledge of Language and Life in the UK test (KOLL) however, all citizenship aspirants need to take the test in order to become naturalised UK citizens. It is quite understandable that people who are quite new will  have no idea what the test is all about, hence take a look at the practice life in the UK citizenship test so that you get used to the questions.

Who actually needs to take the Life in the UK Citizenship Test?

The Life in the UK Citizenship test has been specifically designed to evaluate two essential things in an aspirant: firstly the knowledge of British (UK) life is tested, and secondly the applicant's proficiency in the English language is assessed. The citizenship test is a deciding factor that lets the UK government assess the applicants' knowledge of the English language and about life in the United Kingdom. Life in the UK test is mandatory under the Nationality, Immigration and Asylum Act 2002. There are very few people who take the test in any other language other than English.

The Life in the UK test is designed in such a way that it ensures you adapt comfortably and happily to life in the UK after you move in. The test includes questions on UK culture, customs, values, government, and law. The UK is a potpourri of cultures, customs and points of view and the people have a strong sense of equality for all members comprising the UK community.

The people taking the test need to be computer literate as the test has to be taken on a computer at any of the designated testing facilities.  There is a set of 24 questions to be answered and the time allowed to complete the test is 45 minutes. You don't have to worry if you don't do too well as you can take the test any number of times. However there is no need to worry if you don't get through the first time or even after your second attempt. Going through a mock test will give you a lot of confidence to take the test one more time.

The Life in the UK test covers the following:

·         The values and principles followed by the citizens of the UK

·         Traditions and cultures from all over the United Kingdom

·         People and events that have shaped the history of the UK

·         UK government and law

·         How to become part of the community

If you are serious about becoming a citizen of the United Kingdom it is important that you prepare well for the UK Citizenship Test. There is a handbook that contains many pages containing multiple choice questions, and is worth going through before taking the test.

The Language Test

In order to pass the KOLL test you need to be able to speak English, understand spoken English and be able to read English as well. There are four ways in which you can meet this requirement:

◘  You are a national of a majority English speaking country

◘  You have obtained a degree taught in English

◘  You can prove that your knowledge of English is equivalent to B1 on the Common European Framework of Reference for languages (CEFR)

◘  You can obtain a speaking and listening qualification in English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) at entry levels 1, 2, or 3. You need to study at an accredited institution that imparts study based on citizenship-based course materials.

In case you are taking the test in Scotland, you are allowed to take in Scottish Gaelic, and if you are taking it in Wales in Welsh.

Preparing for the UK Citizenship Test can be challenging for most people. It is a difficult job to memorise so much information simply by reading it over and over again. This method has been found to be monotonous and boring. You can try variations like listening to an audio-book that is available.
