OAKTON, Va. - June 13, 2016 - PRLog -- Mosaic Harmony, an interfaith, multicultural community choir based in Oakton, mourns the loss of long time member, Christine "Chris" Makris, she was 63.  Chris peacefully passed away at home surrounded by her family on Monday, June 13, 2016 after a lengthy battle with brain cancer. Chris became a staple in the Soprano section and joined the choir in 2003. Her passions included singing, dance, exercise and her family. Through personal challenges over the years, if able to be at a concert performance or rehearsal, she was there on the front row ready to sing.  Eleven years ago, Chris had been diagnosed with brain cancer that required surgery and she requested that the choir sing for a fundraising event benefitting brain cancer and traumatic brain injury research.  The surgery and event were both huge successes, and, although she was living with brain cancer that the doctors had warned could return from remission at any time, she returned to the front row of the choir, her voice stronger than ever.  In January 2016, she received confirmation that her brain cancer, which had remained dormant for 11 years had come back. Once again, she began the long road to recovery, the choir and her family believed she would rally and successfully win as she had previously.

As one of our unofficial Mosaic Harmony ambassadors, Chris had a twinkle in her eye and ready smile and her dedication to the choir never wavered.  Rarely one to make commentary unless she felt strongly about a particular subject concerning the choir, she was a tireless supporter, member and performer whose voice and presence will be sorely missed.

At the request of the family, former Mosaic Harmony member Carey Creed will perform and the choir will perform selections during the memorial service to bid a fond final farewell to their friend.  Celebration of Life services will be held Saturday, June 18 at 11am at Emmanuel Episcopal Church, 1608 Russell Road, Alexandria 22301.
