By: The Odyssey Project One thing that cannot be said about Dr. Wallace and his organization, The Odyssey Project, is that they are inactive or uninvolved. As if he does not already have enough on his plate with the Black Community Infusion Initiative, Music is Life program, African American Parent Advisory Councils, The Blueprint, Project One (Empowering Inner-city Families), and more, he has announced the launch of The Black Voice radio program. According to Dr. Wallace, this radio program will serve a number of different purposes, including providing a platform that is dedicated to writing an accurate and positive narrative that represents the Black collective, as a whole. The show also meets a demand by Dr. Claud Anderson, and Dr. Wallace, to increase media outlets that are owned and controlled by Blacks. While this does not address the need to own the towers and technology to broadcast independent of existing communication infrastructures, it does address the need to increase the number of media outlets committed to providing positive and accurate information to counter the negative information that is constantly being disseminated by the mainstream media. When we asked Dr. Wallace to comment on this new endeavor he responded, "It is easy to decide to take the path of least resistance — to give of yourself, only until it becomes uncomfortable. A long time ago, I made up my mind that I would die on "E." What I can tell you is there is nothing comfortable about emptying yourself on a daily basis. There is nothing easy about pouring out all you have, many times pouring into those who don't yet have the capacity to appreciate the sacrifice that you are making. Instead, it takes an implacable passion that refuses to acquiesce to pain, pressure and opposition in order to pour yourself out until you are empty. Yet, I do it gladly." He continued, "The Black Voice radio program is simply another concept of mine that is focused on providing a voice to the voiceless, educating the masses in a manner that actually empowers them to positively impact those in their periphery, to function as a countermeasure to the negative messages that the mainstream media outlets persistently present when it comes to African Americans and a source of accurate dissemination of current events and news. We are not interested in allowing "white-owned" We no longer desire to be told what to think, so we have become a part of the movement that is focused on enhancing and expanding our voice through media ownership." Dr. Wallace has also made it clear that he is committed to funding this entire endeavor internally, within the black collective. He is a staunch advocate of blacks funding their own enterprises through group funding practices. As a part of his efforts as the executive producer of "The Black Voice," he has launched an independent fundraiser that will focus solely on funding the radio program.
