Knowing About Fat Compartments For Better Filler Placement

There are multiple areas of the face which are partitioned into various segregations, understanding which for both the candidate and the surgeon is necessary as depending upon that the exact requirements shall be understood.

LIVERPOOL, U.K. - July 19, 2016 - PRLog -- Understanding about the independent anatomical compartments  can help you during choosing the sections of the face for the filler placement.   Recent studies showcase that the superficial tissues of the face  have lead to an increased  compartmentalized nature of the subcutaneous layer of fat.  It is seen that with the increase in the life expectancy of the candidates, there have an increase in the wish to undergo Rhytidectomy in between 1992 and 2008. And there has been a mentionable increase in the usage of soft tissue fillers, laser skin surfacing and Botox by the ration of 144%, 134% and 537%  respectively.

Rhytidectomy has witnessed a multiple level of advancements since the early 20th century and have seen many a things like sub-SMAS to simple skin excision to subcutaneous, composite dissection and deep plane section divisions. Here is a presentation of what are the facial compartments that can be divided along with the date of its emergence.

·        Forehead- There are 3 fat compartments in the forehead, out of which the central one is located in the midline, extending upto the nasal dorsum and known as the central temporal septum as determined by Rohrich et al in 2007.  Located adjacent to the superior temporal septum, the lateral temporal fat compartment is confluent and contiguous to the subcutaneous cervical fat area along with the cheek fat.

·        Lower and upper eyelids- Eyelid fat compartments can be subdivided into lateral, medial and non-confluent compartments.

·        Superficial cheek- There are 4 fat compartments in the cheek area: lateral temporal, middle, medial and Nasobial. Medical fat compartment is located in the lateral to the nasobial fat and bounded by subcutaneous periorbital compartment superficially  and  by the jowl fat inferiorly.

The middle section extends to what is known as the lateral septum septum and is positioned in the lateral to the medial compartment.  The lateral temporal cheek area is placed immediately  on  the parotid  which connects the forehead fat and subcutaneous cervical fat.

·        Perioral area- There was identified a deep fat compartmental division of both the lower lip and the upper lip located underneath the orbicularis oris muscle when two individual cadaver dissections were being made.

·        Jaw line- there was a jowl formation found by the deflation of the two fatty compartments namely as inferior and superior jowl fat compartments for the subdivision.

·        Chin – It was in 2009, the a deep chin fat compartment has been located in between the spanning border  of the lower lip area and mentalis muscle.  Lying superiorly, this compartment is a much distinct  area located on both the sides of  the mid-line area of the face.
