There are several minor stipulations to becoming a donor. • You must be in good health and feeling well the day of your donation. • You must be at least 17 years of age, or 16 years old with written approval from a parent/guardian. • You must weigh 110 pounds or more. • It's recommended to eat something within four hours prior to the donation. • Fever, persistent cough, sore throat, or chest congestion disqualifies a donor. • You must wait eight (8) weeks between regular blood donations. Waiting period must be sixteen (16) weeks after double red cell apheresis and seven (7) days after platelet apheresis. • If you take any medication you may be deferred from donating due to an underlying medical condition. Check with the Heartland staff for acceptability. • If you have traveled to certain parts of the world you may be deferred. Check with the Heartland staff for acceptability.
